In June of 2001, they played to an empty room at New York’s Mercury Lounge. Last week, The National played to a packed audience of over 15,000 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The band has just released their sixth album, ‘Trouble Will Find Me’, to rave reviews from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Billboard, and countless others.

Melancholy, moody, dad rock… all are phrases that have been used to describe The National. While many of their songs have a somber feel, The National’s music connects to peoples’ emotions, and has many hints of hope and romance. Lead singer Matt Berninger’s baritone is as key to The National’s sound as the band members behind him.

“Trouble Will Find Me” is the most accessible album from The National to date. The sound is lush and full of layers, and the group seems to be playing with more confidence than in the past. The lyrics, reflecting regret, heartbreak and lowered expectations, have plenty of quotable phrases to hook even more fans in the coming months and years.
