Dallas today is a cosmopolitan city known for its high concentration of restaurants and shopping centers. The population density is unusually low for a major metropolitan area, reflecting the predominance of single-family homes. The city is ethnically diverse, with less than half its population being of European descent. About one-fourth of the residents are African American, and more than one-third are Hispanic.

Here’s a tidbit that might surprise you: German chocolate did not come from Germany, but really originated in 1957 in…Dallas. The cake was named after American chocolate maker Samuel German who created a formulation of dark baking chocolate which was then used in the cake’s recipe. Yum!
