The End of An Era
Who is the G.O.A.T. of college basketball coaches? The debate rages on; John Wooden, Roy Williams, Bobby Knight, Eddie Sutton, Dean Smith, Henry Iba.
But one name always stands at the top, … Mike Krzyzewski. He’s a man that doesn’t even need to be introduced by his full name. Coach K is fine.
Some Coach K stats:
- Most career wins as head coach: 1,202
- 5 national championships with the Duke Blue Devils, 13 Final Fours, 15 ACC tournament championships, 13 ACC regular-season titles
- The head coach of 3 US Olympic Gold Medal-winning teams in 2008, 2012, and 2016
- 68 Duke players have been selected in the NBA draft since Coach K’s initial season in 1980. Of those, 42 were taken in the first round.
As his legendary career came to an end this past Saturday, Nike honored Coach K with a celebration.
Nike and Billups WW sought a hyper-local OOH solution – to literally surround the Duke campus with this message:
“You can’t spell team without K”
“You can’t spell honor without K”
“You can’t spell crazies without K”
“You can’t spell coach without K”
WNDW was briefed, contracted, and deployed in under a week. More than 4 dozen independent storefronts were utilized within a 2 mile radius in Durham NC, gaining local attention, support, and enthusiasm, unlike any other out-of-home solution available.
The Cameron Crazies aren’t able to get a haircut, get groceries, or a meal without seeing a reminder of the man that created Krzyzewskiville.
Happy retirement Coach K. You will be missed.
