So, after a few false starts and a couple of teasers, I think we can all agree that Fall is officially here now! It’s the season of crunching through leaves, sweaters, hot cider, and the best holidays of the year, and I’m pretty happy about that.
It’s November (election month!), which means its time for another round of Dean’s Picks!
Event: Boston Book Fair
http://www.bostonbookfair.com/
November 12-14th, Hynes Convention Center
There’s really no better place to be in autumn than New England (they’ve really cornered the market on great foliage), so head in to Boston’s Back Bay for the International Antiquarian Book Fair, the oldest and one of the most respected antique book shows in the country. Over 120 vendors and collectors from the U.S. and Europe will be present, showcasing first additions, original manuscripts, antique maps and more.
Boston is a true walking city too, so visiting is a great Fall weekend trip. Just park the car outside, take the train in to Back Bay, and you’ll have a great time either walking or using the T to get around town. Be sure to check out the Book Fair’s website as well for more travel information as well as area hotels and dining.
Show: “Long Story Short” with Colin Quinn, directed by Jerry Seinfeld
http://colinquinnlongstoryshort.com/
November 9th through January 8, 2011 at the Helen Hayes Theatre
The ever sharp and articulate Colin Quinn takes Broadway by storm with his one-man-show, “Long Story Short” which delves into the rise and fall of empires throughout history, including our own. Quinn leaves no subject untouched; from bad habits, to fashion, to appetites, Long Story Short is garanteed to have you crying with laughter.
Comedy legend Jerry Seinfeld is at the reins, focusing Quinn’s blistering wit and satire, making this a show not to miss. As a taste, the show’s website has a video up of an interview with Quinn and Seinfeld, and even that will have your sides splitting. Tickets are available through telecharge or at the box office.
New Release: N.E.R.D. – Nothing
http://n-e-r-d.com
November 2nd
I’m definitely recommending you go pick up Nothing, the new album from the groundbreaking Hip-Hop collective trio of Pharrell Williams, Shae Haley, and Chad Hugo when it comes out Nov 2. Get ready to leave your notions of a hip-hop record at the door though, as Nothing will redefine what you think about the genre as a whole. Highly experimental, horizon-pushing, and fresh, Nothing will get your pulse pounding and your feet dancing.
Check out N.E.R.D.’s website for a behind-the-scenes look at their recent European tour and the making of the record, including a guest appearance by Lupe Fiasco. Nothing will give your leaf-crunching feet a new beat this fall.
